Yoga is a holistic healing discipline available to everybody. Yoga offers many different tools in the pursuit of optimal health and personal transformation. These tools include, but are not limited to postures, conscious breathing techniques, the use of vocal sounds, meditative practices, gestures and guided self-inquiry. Yoga can safely be practiced by anyone, regardless of age; ability or state of health, provided the person has received proper training/ teaching by a qualified teacher. Personal Transformation is possible with regular practice and is further enhanced by a good student-teacher relationship. At River’s Edge Yoga we offer private, one-on-one instruction as well as small group classes. |

When applying principles of yoga as a way to improve health, it is important to keep in mind that for yoga to work it requires an active participant. The teacher’s role is to understand the needs of the student, after careful assessment and then to design an appropriate practice and teach that to him or her. The practice will then be reviewed and modified as the student’s needs or goals change. The teacher’s role is to assist, motivate and support the student throughout this process. Each student is seen as a unique individual, with unique possibilities and challenges and the practice will of course reflect that. The idea that one size fits all, does not apply to how we approach teaching at River’s Edge Yoga. However the principles of yoga are always present and in alignment with the teachings of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, as that is the foundation for the teachings of this tradition A typical private session last about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The teacher will ask certain questions in order to get an understanding of the person’s lifestyle, activities, diet, current complain, goals etc. The student will also be asked to do some simple movements, so the teacher can observe different movement and breath patterns. Group classes at the studio are small, which allows for close personal attention. Regular semi-private or small classes for four to five students can be arranged as well, please contact the studio if you wish to have a group class arranged. They will be based on either a six or eight- week session. In preparation for your session please wear comfortable, loose clothing. Refrain from eating just prior to the session, a small snack is fine, but nothing major. Please make sure to bring some water as well. |
